Ranch style salad dressing

An easy, home-made alternative for processed Buttermilk Ranch dressings.

  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise Real, not lowfat
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp Penzey's Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Base (or alternative below)


  1. Put Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Base seasoning (or alternative spice mix in notes below) in small bowl with 1 tablespoon water, let sit for 5 minutes.

  2. Add mayonnaise and whisk to blend.

  3. Slowly add buttermilk, whisking until well-blended.

  4. Store in refrigerator, up to 1 week and whisk or shake well before serving

Recipe Notes

Alternative to Penzey's Buttermilk Dressing Base:

  • ½ teaspoon granulated or powdered garlic
  • ½ teaspoon granulated or powdered onion
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or boquet garni
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (if Italian seasoning is unsalted)
