One of the many ways to use the basic Vanilla Cake is to make a berry shortcake with it. Here is a recipe to transform the basic cake into a great dessert worthy of any special occasion.

Berry-topped Cake

Make the standard Vanilla Cake and top with berries, sauce and whipped cream or ice cream.

  • 1 Vanilla Cake (See recipe)
  • 2 cups Berries (Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
  • 2 cups Berries, fresh or frozen (For sauce)

  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream ((optional))
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners sugar
  • Ice cream ((optional))
  1. Make-ahead: Basic Vanilla Cake

  2. If 2 cups of berries for sauce are frozen, set out in a bowl for about 1/2 hour
